Never mind the huge number of deaths that have taken place in the Middle East as a direct result of Bush’s need for warmongering. I mean, two wars, and you say he’s not responsible for the deaths of American soldiers or Iraqi/Afghan civilians?

    You’re so delusional, it’s sad.

If you want to go Dem / Rep caused deaths, you will lose that battle as well.

    Korean War: 36,516 deaths
    Vietnam War: 58,151 deaths
    2 Atomic bombs
I can add up WWI and WWII if you’d like.

Raptor, to say Mao was not a communist, is a joke. Stop trying to defend your worthless way of thinking.

“Mao is credited with commanding the Long March and leading the Communist Party of China (CPC) to victory against Chiang Kai-shek’s Kuomintang (KMT) in the Chinese Civil War, defeating an assortment of powerful regional warlords, and helping repel a Japanese invasion. Later, through his policies, he laid the economic, technological and cultural foundations of modern China, transforming the country from an underdeveloped peasant-based agrarian society into a major industrialized world power. However, he remains a controversial figure to this day, with a contentious legacy that is subject to continuing revision and fierce debate.”

Yes, yes, we learned about Chairman Mao and his contributions to China in my Modern Chinese History class last spring.

Chiang Kai-shek lead the Nationalist Party of China. Mao was concerned with the well-being of ALL China, and his leadership did, in fact, do a lot for the people of China. You just quoted that Mao was responsible for “defeating an assortment of powerful regional warlords, and helping repel a Japanese invasion. Later, through his policies, he laid the economic, technological and cultural foundations of modern China, transforming the country from an underdeveloped peasant-based agrarian society into a major industrialized world power.”

Yes, Mao did a great deal of damage against the free speech of the Chinese people (most notably during the incident of Tienanmen Square), but most political figures throughout history have faced a great deal of controversy with their leadership.

Plus, if I remember correctly, it was Bush who approved of wiretapping civilians. Major breach of privacy there.

In true communism, the workers overthrow the rich bourgeoisie and take control of the government. They set it straight through socialism, and step back so there is no real government. By that definition, there has yet to be a communist government.

Why don’t you stop pussyfooting around the issue?

Get me the total death statistics from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Both are wars that your beloved George W. Bush started while he was president.

Surely, you can find the death tolls for those wars with ease? I mean, they ARE updated on a regular basis.

Anything since 2010 is on Obama’s hands. He also sent 30k more troops, but I guess that is ok huh. The death toll of American troops is FAR lower than any other wars started by Democrats. That is a fact, until you can prove other wise, you are wrong. Between both wars up to 2009 is about 5k American fighters.

here are the stats to other enemies death toll. Still FAR lower then Vietnam itself.

        Afghan troops killed [1] 8,587
        Afghan civilians killed [3] 8,813

        Iraqi troops killed [13] 30,000
Iraqi civilians killed [15] 100,000 (This number includes IED, suicide bombers, violence acts by their own people, so can’t be put all on American hands)

No Claire, I did not. If you’re trying to label Bush as a evil man based on death toll, then he is far down the list, with your idols way ahead of the bunch. I pointed that out many of times and you typical morons go back to Bush. I already gave the stats and showed what Bush is accountable for, but yet you can’t look past that. I’m bored now, come back when you can have a real debate.

        1. RD

And yet you attribute NONE of those deaths to Bush.

Did you look at the nice, neat little bar graphs on the side of the same page you linked to?

The number of civilian deaths peaked in 2003. The number of deaths also peaked in 2005, 2006, and 2007; they have not risen above the numbers reported in 2007 since.

The number of deaths per day (due to suicide attacks and/or vehicle bombs) also peaked in 2007, with 21 deaths per day. In 2008, this number dropped to 10 deaths per day (a number that had not been seen since 2005), and, in 2010, was down to only 7.3 deaths per day, the lowest since 2005.

Now, bring your attention to the graph demonstrating the number of deaths per day from gunfire/executions. In 2003, it was 15.
          In 2004, 18.
          For 2005, 28.
In 2006, the number reached the astonishingly high level of 57 deaths per day from gunfire/executions. The following year (2007), the number dropped to 41 and, in 2008, it dropped again, this time to 14, a number lower than in 2005.
The number of deaths per day from execution/gunfire in 2009 was 4.2. In 2010, the number was lower still, with only 3.9 deaths per day.

Warfare has evolved over time, as weapons and technologies have changed and evolved. To say that the current wars in the Middle East are “FAR lower than Vietnam” is ridiculous.

Oh, and, for your information, there were numerous presidents during the Vietnam War. President Eisenhower was responsible for the United States’ involvement in the war, as he was the President responsible for sending our troops in (and, I’ll have it noted, Eisenhower was a Republican). The other presidents involved in the war were, in order of office, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard Nixon, and Gerald Ford.

There is a difference between GENOCIDE and war. Genocide is where you murder helpless women, men, children, etc – usually because of their race or faith.

War – for whatever reason it is launched – usually includes two groups of warriors facing each other in battle. There have been some exceptions (the atom bombs, dirty tactics against civillians in the civil war, Vietnam where the Vietcong mostly hid in the trees and never showed themselves, etc) – but for the most part this holds true. Two governments *declare war*, and then their respectic militaries do battle. Sometimes it is even entire nation against entire nation – but the defining factor is both countries are hostile towards each other.

Genocide is “the deliberate and systematic destruction, in whole or in part, of an ethnic, racial, religious, or national group”, often by their own government.

So yes, Bush killed ZERO in genocide.

And if you still do not understand the difference between war and genocide, I would recommend reading the book of Esther. Haman tricked the king into sending out an edict that would have commanded the soldiers to -kill all the jews- in the land on a specific day. The queen at the time, also a jew, but hiding it, went to the king to beg for her people’s lives. The king could not overturn his own edict, as per the law, but he could make a ‘new’ edict. His new command was that the jews could assemble and -fight back- and take the spoil of anyone who attacked them on that day. A planned genocide was thus turned into a fair battle (which the jews won).

But rather than listen to me ramble, it appears one of the random denizens of the internet has already compiled a list of top genocides of the 20th century, and answered questions such as how to factor in wars or the atomic bomb, Iraq, Vietnam, etc:

We can’t forget that democrats caused the civil war.
Republicans have been involved in very few wars comparatively
JFK had the Bay of Pigs fiasco.
    Clinton had Serbia and Somalia.
Clinton also bombed Afghanistan and Iraq during his presidency.

Actually, Lincoln (a Republican) played the role of the aggressor in the Civil War. And guess what? The Confederates were actually conservatives that were fighting for representation in Congress, something they didn’t have much of. They were going to right the wrongs present in their Confederate States of America, then rejoin the Union. In fact, Robert E. Lee and President Jefferson Davis of the CSA both openly opposed slavery. They couldn’t abolish it right away though, or else who knows what would have happened.

Please continue fighting my points with your Twilight Zone logic.

For those people who dispute who started Vietnam.
First American military casualty was Peter Dewey in 1945. Truman was president.
French go to full war in 1946
Truman gives the French money, weapons and military advisors in 1950
1954 Eisenhower declares moral support for French. Declares we cannot send our troops.
1956 French bail. US start training Vietnamese soldiers. Number of Americans in Vietnam decreases form the time Truman was president
    1960 JFK elected
1962 US military begins actual operations in Vietnam.

Are you going to continue to deny that the number of deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan were HIGHER during Bush’s presidency? That’s akin to saying that those deaths weren’t of any importance.

“JFK was the one who signed the troops deployment. Nixon was the one who brought them back. Try again.”

And Kennedy was president during a period of time when people were afraid of communism. The war was remarkably unpopular by the time Nixon was elected. He couldn’t do anything BUT bring the troops back.

You seem to still be afraid of communism. I guess you’re siding with Kennedy, then.

RD again for the 5th time, I agreed to Bush’s numbers. See your hate blinds you from being able to read.

Doesn’t matter, JFK sent troops, he was a dem, Nixon pulled them out. You are the one who is denying the fact that compared to your left wing presidents and communist idols, Bush is pretty damn tame. But I know you won’t, you will try to say Bush, Bush, Bush and ignore all other facts showing he was not nearly the “Killer” as your other pals.

“And Kennedy was president during a period of time when people were afraid of communism.”

So this excuses Bush right? Because people were scared of Terrorism since Clinton.

Fun fact: I’m not a Republican or a Democrat. I consider myself to be a Libertarian, if anything, as I would like the government to stay as far away from my personal life as possible.

The Vietnam War was something that the United States should not have been involved in. The same goes for the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Bush was the president who demanded that we go to war, and he was a terrible president. End of story. Nothing excuses Bush for starting two completely unnecessary wars. We’ve been at war for well over six years now, and have destroyed countless lives as a result.

People are always afraid of terrorism. Bush did not have substantial evidence to prove that, by going to war in Afghanistan and Iraq, terrorism would be obliterated or subdued.

I wouldn’t even want to know the amount of deaths that our capitalist society has perpetuated, I mean dealing in all the Cocaine trading in Brazil, Columbia, Chile or Peru. How about the blood diamonds from South Africa, or the Opium fields in China. Lets also talk about the founding of this great United States, the genocide of the Indigenous peoples, the Native Americans, how about our form of concentration camp IE the Indian Reservations? It’s not socialism, its class-ism, its the idea that someone is better because of the amount of money they make or what they own, an idea that CAPITALISM perpetuates. Your ignorance is dumb founding.

Why do you people fear equality?
I mean this for gender, race, religion and social classes, all of which you appear to have problems, borderline hatreds with. Most people’s idea of God is one which is loving of all- not a select few.

NO PERSON IS SUPERIOR TO ANY OTHER.

I am a bisexual agnostic socialist (male) who believes in feminism and FULL equality. Yet this worries you, becomes a cause of concern.

Why does the idea of universal health care and state-funded education continue to be set back why right-wing fools whom would rather see the money spent on a nuclear warhead which will never be used?

You criticise several leaders (incorrectly) yet you conveniently miss Fidel Castro’s popularity during his reign. You never caught him, either.

You are so quick to condemn everything you aren’t, but you daren’t look at your own problems and hypocrises- why?
